PEOPLE

Our concept is built around people - our creative team! Ronald, Darcy and Paul are the founders and

basis of the business.

RONALD PRENT - MIXING ENGINEER / CREATIVE DIRECTOR

Almost thirty years ago, Ronald began his career as an inexperienced assistant engineer at Wisseloord Studios.

Since then, he has established himself as one of the most accomplished and innovative mix engineers in the

world working for renowned artists such as Rammstein, The Scorpions, Simple Minds, Live, Within Temptation,

Manowar, Alain Clark, Peter Maffay and Clouseau, just to name a few.

While happy to work in stereo, Ronald specializes in the area of surround sound - not only pioneering in the

field of mixing, but also playing a key role in the conceptualization and development of new technology for

working in 5.1 and other progressive high-resolution multi-channel formats. In the very early years of

surround audio development, Ronald became a "test pilot" for Sony and Philips' DSD/SACD format and

many of the projects that he mixed in those days are still held up as benchmark examples of creative

surround mixing - e.g., Guano Apes - "Don't Give Me Names", Kane - "So Glad You Made It",

Herbert Grönemeyer - "Mensch".

The concept of reviving Wisseloord began with Ronald who, as a member of the Board of Directors,

will direct the creative and technical development of the facility as well as continuing to work his

magic behind the mixing console.

DARCY PROPER - MASTERING ENGINEER

Before becoming involved with Wisseloord, Darcy was senior mastering engineer at Galaxy Studios in Belgium

and at Sony Music Studios in New York City. She has worked on a wide variety of music ranging from re-issues

of early acoustic mono recordings to current 5.1 high-resolution surround releases for BluRay. Early in her

career, Darcy spent many years as a classical engineer/editor and brings much of what she learned in that

arena to her mastering.

Thus far, Darcy has been honored with 2 Grammy awards and 7 nominations and has won several TEC

awards and Surround awards for her work. She mastered historical reissue projects for such prestigious

artists as Billie Holiday, Louis Armstrong, Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Johnny Cash, and André Hazes.

She has also worked on stereo & 5.1 front-line releases for many talented artists including Steely Dan,

The Eagles, R.E.M., Donald Fagen, Porcupine Tree, Peter Maffay, Toots Thielemans, and

Söhne Mannheims.

In addition to mastering projects, Darcy will serve on the Board of Directors, overseeing business

strategy and development for the mastering division of Wisseloord and its educational programs.

After beginning his career at NOB in the field of multi-camera recordings for television, Wouter headed the DVD department at United Broadcast Facilities in Hilversum for five years.  While there, his in-depth technical knowledge of the format allowed him to make full creative use of the medium to produce exciting and artful music-entertainment DVD releases.
Wouter then went on to work for Galaxy Studios in Belgium, specializing in BluRay and coordinating a wide variety of productions from large-scale multi-media music releases to live concert recordings to digital intermediate workflows for feature film.

LUKAS MORAWSKI – STUDIO ASSISTANT

Originally from Gdynia, Poland, Lukas studied sound engineering at the SAE Institute in Rotterdam and followed that up with an internship at Galaxy Studios in Belgium.  Since then, he has been exploring various career paths in audio, largely focused on sound for picture including production/post-production audio for film and television.  His first film project was awarded the Golden Calf for Best Sountrack at the 2009 Nederlands Film Festival and he has trained sound engineers in Iraq the latest state-of-the-art techniques for TV sound production.
Lukas’ fascination with sound began at an early age as he began experimenting with cassette decks, tape machines, speakers, and soldering irons.  As a teenager, he worked front-of-house for European summer tours.  Now Lukas has joined us here at Wisseloord to pursue the studio side of the business and will be honing his recording, editing, and mixing skills under the guidance of Ronald Prent and our knowledgeable guest engineers as he assists them in their projects.

ERIK VAN DER HORST - STUDIO ASSISTANT

A Dutchman born and bred, Erik earned his Bachelor degree in Music Technology in the KMT program at HKU in 2009.  Before joining us at Wisseloord, Erik worked part-time as a music technology instructor at Media College in Amsterdam while also working in the field as a recording/mix engineer.  During the course of his career thus far, Erik has tried his hand at composing and producing, but feels his true calling is engineering.
In addition to his work at Wisseloord, Erik has designed a comprehensive sound/light/media rig for City Life Church Utrecht and leads their production team in its weekly installation and operation in the Stadschouwburg Utrecht theater.
Working here at Wisseloord, Erik is excited by the opportunity to interact with and learn from the diverse group of music professionals he’ll be assisting in our studios.

ASTRID VERHOEFF – OFFICE MANAGER

Astrid began her music-oriented career working at Universal Music where she remained a part of the team for nearly ten years.  First, as a promoter there, she spent her time with international artists on the promotion circuit.  She followed that up in recent years working in marketing and promotion, supporting other product managers and promoters.

Astrid fell in love with the atmosphere here at Wisseloord years ago on her first visit for a Universal showcase.  Now she’s happy to be back, this time in the challenging role of Office Manager where she is the friendly face that will greet you as you enter the studio.
